Kitchen Assistant Lead
Description:
The Kitchen Assistant Lead effectively supports the Kitchen Lead and team in providing high-quality, fresh, nutritious, tasty food for students to support a productive and positive learning environment. The Assistant Lead supports cooking, assists with record-keeping, and supports the Lead with additional paperwork and inventory. Additionally, when the Kitchen Lead is unavailable, the Assistant Lead supports by carrying out the duties of the Lead. This position maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students and staff while providing a positive learning and work environment.

Reports to: Nutrition Services Director
Direct Reports: This is a non-supervisory position.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, 10-month position. Compensation is $17.00/hour - $19.50/per hour depending on experience. See a detailed outline of benefits and additional compensation at the bottom of the job description.
Essential Functions:
- Support the opening of the kitchen by stocking paper products, plastic ware, trays, napkins, etc.
- Display daily menus for students
- Cashier breakfast and aid in cleaning up breakfast
- Take ending milk count before lunch
- Utilize menu and production records to prepare for daily production; prepare what is planned for the day; and ensure all changes have been updated
- Take all beginning temperatures on products for the produce and fruits prepared
- Place items for serving on serving lines with appropriate utensils for serving
- Add any waste to monthly waste sheet
- At all times maintain a sanitized work area, working efficiently with productivity
- Support with all production of meals in between lunches
- Assist with cooking and baking as needed
- Support with dish cleaning, sanitization, and storage
- Safely handle and prepare food and equipment; clean and sanitize equipment and facilities
- Practice safety precaution measures in all phases of food service operations
- Maintain quality and attractiveness with all fruits and vegetables
- Maintain accurate and legible production records
- Carry out all instructions provided by Nutrition Director and Kitchen Lead
- Communicate with supervisor regularly
- Be present and engage in Pinnacle functions and organizations to build strong relationships with students, parents, peers, and the community.
- Maintain and deepen current educational learning on an ongoing basis.
- Demonstrate regular and timely attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General Abilities, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Skills:
- Experience working in food service
- School food service experience preferred
- Knowledge of National School Lunch Program requirements preferred
- Experience using an electronic cash register, or point-of-sale (POS) system
- Proficient in basic math and cash-handling skills
- Knowledge of food safety requirements (state or local Health Department requirements)
- ServSafe or other equivalent food safety certification preferred but not required. Ability to collaborate and communicate while appreciating the diverse background of students, parents, peers, and the community
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

Working Conditions:
Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and kitchen conditions. Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.
Mental Functions: Analyze, collaboration, communicate, compare, compilation of data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, instruct, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.
Physical Activities: Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students and peers.
Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 30 pounds).
